Dental Implants Q & A

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are the best replacements for natural teeth available today. Unlike bridges and dentures, which only cover missing teeth, dental implants replace the full tooth and root.

Implants consist of a root-like metal screw affixed to your jaw bone that extends above your gum line. A crown attached to the top of the screw restores the visible portion of the tooth.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

When it comes to your teeth, you want to look and feel your best. Dental implants from an experienced provider give you that satisfaction by achieving the most true-to-life version of your smile.

In addition to repairing your smile, dental implants may also restore your:

  • Speaking ability
  • Chewing function
  • Oral and jaw health
  • Appearance
  • Self-image

Dental implants are secure and permanent, and they can never decay or get infected. Typically, they don’t require any extra maintenance once they’re in place so that you can enjoy them for the rest of your life.

What is it like to get dental implants?

Before surgery, Dr. Kulaly takes X-rays and examines your oral and jaw bone health to determine if you’re a good candidate for implants. She treats cavities, infection, or gum issues before proceeding.

The first part of the implant surgery involves attaching a metal screw to your jaw bone and letting that heal. She may also be able to place a temporary tooth on top of that during that time if you prefer.

Once the metal root fuses to your jaw bone, which may take several months, Dr. Kulaly takes impressions of your teeth and sends them to a lab to customize your crown. During a follow-up procedure, she attaches the crown to the top of the metal root so that you can get back to your normal eating habits.

You don’t have to worry about your implant coming loose during sports or strenuous activity. You should also brush, floss, rinse, and come in for regular exams and cleanings like you normally would with your natural teeth.

With her advanced dental implant expertise and dedication to a soothing experience, Dr. Kulaly makes the procedure as comfortable and effective as possible. To schedule your pre-implant consultation, call the office to request your appointment.
